Yes, that’s right! You didn’t read it wrong. Artistic manhole!
Before I left for Japan, I briefly read that a group of artists specialized in decorating the covers of structural inspection holes, commonly called manholes. This is very interesting because, in Indonesia, drain covers are normal, with standard shapes and colors that follow the original color of the material, whether concrete or iron plate.
When I first arrived in Tokyo, I forgot. But suddenly, while walking around Shibuya I saw a manhole with a very interesting design and color. Finally, looking for a manhole with a unique design and color became one of my agendas in Japan.
Not just manholes, but even station floors and, road paving blocks are uniquely designed and colored.
I wonder, if manholes in Indonesia were designed and colored like that, they would be better.
